Relational Therapy
Family, friends, polycules, marriage, partnerships, etc.
I believe that the term "Marriage and Family Therapist" doesn't fully describe what we can use the therapy room for. I think that all relationships outside of a marriage or monogomous context deserve the time, space, and support that therapy can provide.
Many are in polyamorous relationships and maybe haven't considered what it might look or feel like to have an appointment with the therapist to support the polycule so that all needs and wants are receiving attention and care.
Family can have struggles and might not have the relief or continued strained relationships. Having a 3rd party as myself to support everyone in the room can help strengthen relationships and bring more peace and understanding to the family.
Sometimes there are friendships that span decades and a lifetime, but occasionally there's a rift, a disappointment, a hurt, and the friendship often ends. I believe our friendships are incredibly important to maintain and worth seeking therapy for to resolve. Even if things are going great for you and your friends, why not enhance the relationship with a session?
Marriage and committed partnerships can be challenging. Finances, children, life goals, differing values, building hurts—it can start to feel precarious and that the magic, warmth, and gentleness might be fading. Relational therapy can provide support and guidance towards a more preferred relationship.
I also am a firm believer in preventative relational therapy. Have a session when things are feeling great and we can continue to enhance what is present, and protect and nurture the best parts.
